Claudia Villarreal Méndez is a fully bilingual educator from Guadalajara with varied experience teaching multiple subjects at the early childhood level- including English, yoga, and art. Claudia holds a degree from the University of Guadalajara in Social Psychology and has completed preschool licensure coursework. She most recently served as an English language preschool teacher for over four years. Claudia is a world traveler with a strong dedication to the core green values of CVIS. She establishes a structured yet creative environment for young learners. Movement and discovery are core to her lesson planning. We are thrilled to have her join us.

Claudia es licenciada por la Universidad de Guadalajara en Psicología Social y ha completado el curso de licenciatura preescolar. Ella sirvió más recientemente como profesor del preescolar de la lengua inglesa por más de cuatro años. Claudia es un viajero del mundo con una fuerte dedicación a los valores verdes de CVIS. Melissa cardoso

Melissa Cardoso is a Cuban/Puerto Rican/Kenyan/ American/ Mexican bilingual educator in her second year at CVIS. With a degree in Family and Child Development from The University of Georgia, Melissa takes a holistic and multinational approach to early childhood education. The interests and abilities of her students drive her language-rich instruction. Melissa moves seamlessly from English to Spanish throughout the day to enhance the language abilities of all learners.
Melissa Cardoso es una educadora bilingüe cubana, puertorriqueña, keniana, americana y mexicana en su segundo año en CVIS. Con un título en Desarrollo de la Familia y el Niño de la Universidad de Georgia, Melissa adopta un enfoque holístico y multinacional para la educación de la primera infancia. Los intereses y habilidades de sus estudiantes impulsan su instrucción rica en lenguaje. Melissa se mueve sin problemas del inglés al español durante todo el día para mejorar las habilidades lingüísticas de todos los estudiantes.

Marijose Ramos Lozano
K3 and 1st grade
Marijose Ramos Lozano initially started at CVIS in 2016/17 as a substitute teacher. She was immediately identified as a caring and skilled educator. Coming from the local community, Marijose has a strong understanding of the specific and special culture of Sayulita. She brings this multicultural and multilingual understanding to the classroom. Marijose received teacher training and licensure from Vizcaya University in Puerto Vallarta.
Marijose Ramos Lozano comenzó inicialmente en CVIS en 2016/17 como maestra sustituta. Ella fue inmediatamente identificada como un educador educado y atento. Viniendo de la comunidad local, Marijose tiene una fuerte comprensión de la cultura específica y especial de Sayulita. Ella aporta esta comprensión multicultural y multilingüe al aula. Marijose recibió instrucción docente y licenciatura de la Universidad de Vizcaya en Puerto Vallarta.
Daniel ramos

Daniel Ramos is a bicultural and bilingual educator from both Durango, Mexico and Chicago,Illinois. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychological Education from DePaul University and an Associate’s Degree in Elementary Education from Triton College. He has also earned several certifications from Cambridge University.Daniel has been a bilingual educator for more than six years. He incorporates a variety of instructional methods including visual, audio, tactile and kinesthetic. In addition, he integrates phonic activities and technology to ensure maximum comprehension and language acquisition. Daniel Ramos es un educador bicultural y bilingüe de Chicago Illinois, Durango y México. Posee una Licenciatura en Educación Psicológica de la Universidad DePaul y una Licenciatura en Educación Primaria de Triton College. También ha obtenido varias certificaciones de la Universidad de Cambridge.
Daniel ha sido un educador bilingüe por más de seis años. Incorpora una variedad de métodos de instrucción incluyendo visual, audio, táctil y kinestésico. Además, integra las actividades fóneticas y la tecnología para asegurar la máxima comprensión y adquisición del lenguaje. El objetivo de Daniel es fomentar y mantener un salón de clase abierto, honesto, comunicativo y de apoyo, en el que cada estudiante se sienta protegido, seguro y adecuadamente desafiado.
BRIDGET C. LOPEZ PEREZ

Ms. Brigi holds a degree in Special Education with a specialization in Learning Disabilities, as well as an associates degree in teaching practice and special education from the Institute of Special Education in Madrid Spain. Brigi has been with CVIS for 5 years, bringing a holistic approach to education. She incorporates dance, art, eco-science, and storytelling into her daily lessons. She knows that happy and relaxed children learn best.
Ms. Brigi es licenciada en Educación Especial con especialización en Discapacidades de Aprendizaje, además de un título de asociado en práctica docente y educación especial del Instituto de Educación Especial de Madrid, España. Brigi ha estado con CVIS por 5 años, trayendo un acercamiento holístico a la educación. Ella incorpora danza, arte, eco-ciencia y narración de cuentos en sus lecciones diarias. Ella sabe que los niños felices y relajados aprenden mejor.
SHERRI BROWN

Sherri Brown is a master teacher with over 30 years of experience teaching 4th and 5th grade students. We are excited for her to bring her background of student achievement to CVIS. She successfully taught multicultural learners at varying levels of English language proficiency in one of the most diverse schools in Oregon. Sherri creates units of study based on the needs and interests of the students. She is often called upon to coach educators in building effective classroom communities and systems.
Sherri Brown es una maestra con más de 30 años de experiencia en la enseñanza de estudiantes de 4º y 5º grado. Estamos entusiasmados en poder contar con ella y su conocimiento que serán de gran apoyo para el éxito académico de los alumnos de CVIS. Con éxito enseñó a estudiantes multiculturales en diferentes niveles de dominio del idioma inglés en una de las escuelas más diversas en Oregon. Sherri crea unidades de estudio basadas en las necesidades e intereses de los estudiantes. A menudo es llamada a educar a los profesores en la construcción de comunidades y sistemas de aula eficaces.

Claudia has lived for many years in the local area and is ardently aligned with the CVIS mission of creating a sustainable world and ecologically conscious and informed students.
Con más de 19 años de experiencia en educación bilingüe desde la primaria hasta el nivel universitario en los Estados Unidos y México, Claudia trae un estilo de instrucción académicamente riguroso y atractivo a Costa Verde. Claudia ha vivido durante muchos años en el área local y está fuertemente alineada con la misión CVIS de crear un mundo sostenible y estudiantes ecológicamente conscientes e informados.
DR. KARYN GOMEZ
6TH GRADE
Dr. Karyn Gomez spent 18 years in the classroom as a 6th grade teacher before earning her doctorate at Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2005. She has since worked for Eastern Oregon University where she currently serves as Director of Educator Preparation. Karyn teaches undergraduate and graduate coursework in student assessment, language acquisition, classroom management, literacy and more. Aside from serving CVIS as 6th grade teacher, she will also develop weekly teacher professional development and will assist in the international accreditation process.
La Dra. Karyn Gómez pasó 18 años en el salón de clases como maestra de sexto grado antes de obtener su doctorado en Texas A & M University-Commerce en 2005. Desde entonces, ha trabajado para Eastern Oregon University, donde actualmente es Directora de Preparación para Educadores. Karyn enseña cursos de pregrado y posgrado en evaluación de estudiantes, adquisición de lenguaje, alfabetización y más. Aparte de servir a CVIS como maestra de sexto grado, también desarrollará un programa de capacitación profesional semanal para maestros y ayudará en el proceso de acreditación internacional.
Laura Bermudez Menendez

Laura Bermúdez Menéndez is from Asturias, Spain with three separate education related degrees (Physical Education, Bilingual education, & Education and Sports Management). She is also a certified Teacher of Spanish as a Second Language. Laura began her career in Spain as a English and Sports teacher in several schools. During two years she served as a Spanish Immersion teacher in Lexington, Kentucky. Aside from academics, Laura was a bilingual camp coordinator where she taught surf, SUP, and kayak for both children and adults.
Aside from serving as 6th grade teacher, Laura will also lead ESL/SSL Services at Costa Verde.
Laura Bermúdez Menéndez es de Asturias, España, con tres títulos relacionados con educación (Educación Física, Educación Bilingüe, Ciencias de la Educación Física y del deporte). También es profesora certificada de español como segunda lengua. Laura comenzó su carrera impartiendo Inglés y deportes en diferentes colegios de España. Durante dos años fue profesora de inmersión en español en Lexington, Kentucky. Ella se dedica a promover y enseñar ciudadanía global y respeto. Aparte del área académica, Laura ha sido también coordinadora en campamentos bilingües donde impartía surf, SUP y de kayak para niños y adultos.
Además de ser maestra de 6º grado, Laura también dirigirá los servicios de ESL / SSL en Costa Verde.
JUAN PABLO GARCIA CASTILLION

Mi nombre esJuan Pablo García Castillón, vivo en Puerto Vallarta; Jalisco, desde hace 44 años, nací en Guadalajara Jalisco, me encanta mucha dar clases, tengo más de 14 años dando clases, las escuelas donde he dado clases son las siguientes; Escuela Secundaria Técnica no 3, Universidad Arcos, Universidad América Latina, Colegio Juana de Asbaje y la Universidad de la Vera Cruz, es mi primer año en CVIS, aquí encontré un equipo formidable y una comunidad que me trata como una familia. Estudie la Carrea de Ingeniería y Comunicaciones y electrónica, tengo una Maestría en Calculo Integral, Estudie Administración de Empresas, Tome en la ciudad de San José Costa Rica, un diplomado en medio ambiente, he realizado conferencias en la Universidad UNE, de Puerto Vallarta, sobre la administración de los servicios públicos, también realice otra conferencia en Guadalajara Jalisco y Puerto Vallarta ante empresario y medios de comunicación, sobre el Manejo de los residuos sólidos de Puerto Vallarta y del cierre y abandono del basurero municipal de Puerto Vallarta Jalisco. Me encanta pasar los fines de semana con mi familia, ir a ver jugar fut bol soccer a mi hijo, me encanta leer libros junto a mi hija mayor e ir al cine con ellos pero sobre todo amo a mi familia.
John Whitten
SECONDARIA
John Whitten, a dual US/ Mexican citizen and resident of nearby La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, brings with him over 20 years of experience in classroom instruction and administration. Johnhas worked in a broad range of educational fields and levels ranging from special education to college level instruction.
He was introduced to education as an interpretation ranger at Bandelier National Monument in New Mexico, USA where he gave trail tours of Anasazi/Native American cultural sites, coordinated educational outreach programs for local schools, and conducted archaeological fieldwork and conservation. He was the developer, director, and instructor of Quest, an educational program for at-risk teens at Poway Unified School District in California from 1997-2000. He arrived in Puerto Vallarta in 2000 where he ran a sea-school program that taught students sailing and navigation on a 50 foot sailboat. He has subsequently taught and administered several schools in the Vallarta area.
John fell in love with CVIS after working with the administration and board on the expansion of the secondary education program and preliminary accreditation process. As the newly appointed coordinator of the secondary program, he looks forward to implementing new oversight and augmentation of the existing middle school curriculum, opening up new opportunities and course offerings through the Extended Learning Program, moving forward with international accreditation process, as well as reinforcing the existing environmentally conscious vision of CVIS.

John Whitten, ciudadano mexicano/americano y residente de La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, trae consigo más de 20 años de experiencia en instrucción y administración en el aula. John ha trabajado en una amplia gama de campos educativos y niveles que van desde educación especial a la instrucción de nivel universitario. Posee una licenciatura de Eckerd College en Estudios Americanos, se concentró en Historia, Literatura y Ciencias Políticas, recibió su maestría de California en Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad de San Diego y obtuvo su Maestría en Diseño y Desarrollo Curricular Instituto de Estilos de Aprendizaje en la Universidad Estatal de Nueva York.
Fue introducido a la educación como un guardabosque de la interpretación en el monumento nacional de Bandelier en Nuevo México, los EEUU donde él dio viajes del rastro de los sitios culturales de Anasazi (Nativos Americanos), coordinó programas educativos de alto impacto para las escuelas locales, y realizó el trabajo de campo arqueológico y la conservación. Fue el desarrollador, director e instructor de Quest, un programa educativo para adolescentes en riesgo en Poway Unified School District en California de 1997-2000. Llegó a Puerto Vallarta en el año 2000 donde dirigió un programa de escuelas marinas que enseñaba a los estudiantes navegar en un velero de 50 pies. Luego ha enseñado y administrado varias escuelas en el área de Vallarta.
John se enamoró de CVIS después de trabajar con la administración y la mesa directiva en la expansión del programa de educación secundaria y el proceso de acreditación preliminar. Aanya Sheikh-Taheri
Secondaria
Aanya Sheikh-Taheri comes from Bellingham, Washington where she lived for the past twelve years before moving to Sayulita. Aanya first fell in love with culture and travel at an early age when she visited Iran, the homeland of her father and grandparents. Since then, Aanya has always had an intense connection to exploring the world and learning about diverse cultures, languages, and people. She has connected to many wonderful places all over the world, but ultimately her love for the ocean, the outdoors, sunshine, and the vibrant, open-hearted culture in Sayulita are what attracted her most in wanting to be here more than anywhere else.
Aanya graduated from Western Washington University with her Bachelors degree in English/Literature and a Masters degree in Teaching for Secondary Education. She has taught high school English for the last seven years, and has taught a variety of grade levels and classes such as reading, intermediate writing, honors English, and poetry. Her creative passion throughout her career has been in advising the poetry club and organizing and putting on an annual school-wide poetry slam. Aanya enjoys writing alongside her students, and it has been a goal of hers to give young people the opportunity to have a voice and a safe and exploratory outlet to creatively express themselves.
In her free time Aanya likes to hang out with her dog Kona, paint, dance, play soccer, and be in the water or exploring the outdoors. Her favorite kind of flower has always been a sunset, so she is very much looking forward to all the flowers she will get to see while here in Sayulita.
ROBERT WHITEMAN
FIELD STUDIES
Rob has been a teacher for over 15 years, teaching ESL, English, Journalism and cross-curricular Field Studies courses to at-risk youth in New York City. For the past two years he has taught 5th and 6th grade English, Math, and Science here at Costa Verde. He loves living here in Sayulita exploring nature, connecting with people, surfing, and learning Spanish with his wife Niki and kids, Arlo in 3d grade and Gus in K3.
This year he is excited to take on a new role at Costa Verde as Field Studies Coordinator. As Field Studies Coordinator he will be the steward of CVIS' “Green” Vision. He will be working collaboratively with all CVIS teachers to integrate “Green” into the curriculum through environmental, ecological, and community based projects, trips (including camping and overnights for older kids!), presentations, performances, community outreach, and more. He will be working with each teacher to deliver a 3 to 6 week “green” project per grade and all field trip research and coordination. He will also be coordinating student and parent development and stewardship of our beach clean-ups, garden beds, chickens, and composting and recycling programs.
Mauricio Oregon Roque
Physical Education
Mauricio Oregon Roque is originally from Puerto Vallarta but now lives in Mexcales. He attended university in Tepic and a was very fond of his classes in biology, natural sciences, history, and physical education. HIs favorite hobby is playing soccer, and he played five years at a professional level; three years in Puerto Vallarta in a 3rd division, one year in Guadalajara in a 2nd Division and another year he played in Tulancingo Hidalgo for another 2nd Division team. Thanks to the sport he got to see almost of the states of the republic! He loves animals (he has 4 dogs), working out at the gym, going to the beach, running, and kayaking.

Mi nombre es Mauricio Oregon Roque, nací el 22 de septiembre de 1989 en puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. Actualmente vivo en mezcales Nayarit, pero de pequeño viví un año en los cabos san Lucas, baja california sur .allá curse el tercer grado de primaria y después regresamos a vivir con mi familia a mezcales como hasta este momento. Mi familia está conformada por 5 miembros (mi padre Delfino, madre Olivia, mi hermana Iliana, mi hermano jareth y su servidor. Yo soy el de en medio, primero se encuentra mi hermana, después yo y por ultimo mi hermano. Mi formación académica la realice en las escuelas de la región, estudié nivel primaria en mezcales, secundaria en San José del valle, preparatoria en puerto Vallarta y la universidad en Tepic Nayarit. Las materias que más gustaron en mi información fueron la de biología o ciencias naturales, historia, educación física, mi pasatiempo favorito es jugar futbol, jugué 5 años a nivel profesional, 3 años en puerto Vallarta en una 3ra división, 1 año en Guadalajara en una 2da división, en ese tiempo viví ahí mismo y el otro año jugué en Tulancingo Hidalgo en otra 2da, también viví allá, gracias a ese deporte logre conocer la mayor parte de los estados de la república. También me gusta ir al gimnasio, ir a la playa, correr, andar en kayak, me gustan mucho los animales, en mi casa tenemos 4 perros.
