Dear Community,
As happens this time of year we say a few good byes this week. Jason and Elena, our artists in residence, will have their last day with us this Friday. While they have been here they have engaged our students in visual arts, crafting, singing, and circus arts (lots of juggling!). It has been an amazing few months with Jason and Elena and we are extremely grateful to them for sharing their gifts and talents with us!
This week also marks my departure—a very bittersweet moment for me. I am certainly excited to be returning to my family and to welcome my first grandchild, but I am going to sincerely miss CVIS and this community. It has been an honor and privilege to serve as director these past two years, and I have come to love this amazing little school and all of the people that are a part of this community. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for welcoming me into your community, supporting me during my time here, and for making my experience so special. I wish you all the best! I would love a chance to say goodbye to each and every one of you so please make time this week to say goodbye.
Correction from last week’s letter: The fist day of the 2016-17 school year is August 22, not August 23. Also, the tentative (still may change a little) SEP calendar for next year is attached to this email!
Mindset workshop this week! Ms. Gina, our ESL and Secundaria English Teacher, would like to invite interested parents to a workshop on Thursday 30 June, at 1:30pm. This workshop will be about a new and very important tendency called Mindset. Mindset is a simple idea discovered by world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck in decades of research on achievement and success. This tendency has proven to make a big difference in the way students think about their intelligence and how they perceive hard work. If you are interested please contact Gina to let her know you plan to attend. This is a fascinating topic and one that has the potential to change the way we teach and raise our children. The last Parent/Teacher conferences will be held July 7 and 8. This will be a great time to meet with teachers and get a final update on your child’s growth this year. Beginning soon you will be able to sign up for a conference time. Please remember these will be early release days—students will be out at 12pm on both of these days. NOTE: There will be no Guarderia on these days.
Two teaching positions open for next year—we are currently seeking qualified applicants to fill our English as a Second Language and Spanish as a Second Language positions. Applicants must have a minimum of two years of teaching experience, experience working with students ages 6-14, be bilingual (or conversationally bi-linugal), and have excellent references. Reminders: Our last official day of school will be July 13. On this day we will celebrate graduations for our Kinder 3, Grade 6, and Grade 9 students—we will honor the passage from one part of their lives to another: kinder students pass on to primary, primary students pass on to Secundaria, and our Grade 9 students begin a new adventure as high school students. Our end of year Clausura assembly and graduation will begin at 9am and we will release students to you after the assembly (likely around 10:30)
CVIS has 2 open positions for the Board of Directors. Requirements are as follows;
*Attend all 6 meetings throughout the 2016-17 school year. (Sept, Nov, Jan, March, May, June).
* Participate in at least one of the fundraisers
*Commit to being on a Board Sub committee
*Understand and support the CVIS School and staff
*Serve a 2 year school term

New director Chris Sullivan will have his first day at CVIS on Monday, July 4. The board would like to invite you to a meet and great to welcome Chris to the school on July 6 at 2:30. We’d like for this event to be a potluck and ask that you consider bringing a dish to share. We hope you can make time to welcome Chris to CVIS!

Estimada Comunidad,
Como sucede en esta época del año nos despedimos de algunas personas esta semana. Jason y Elena, nuestros artistas en residencia tendrán su último día con nosotros este viernes. Mientras han estado aquí han participado nuestros estudiantes en artes visuales, el canto y artes de circo (muchos malabares!). Ha sido unos meses sorprendentes con Jason y Elena y estamos muy agradecidos con ellos por compartir sus dones y talentos con nosotros!
Esta semana también marca mi partida, un momento muy agridulce para mí. Ciertamente estoy emocionado de volver a mi familia y dar la bienvenida a mi primera nieta, pero voy a extrañar sinceramente a CVIS y esta comunidad. Ha sido un honor y un privilegio servir como director estos últimos dos años, y he llegado a amar esta pequeña escuela y todas las personas que forman parte de esta comunidad. Les agradezco desde el fondo de mi corazón por darme la bienvenida a su comunidad, apoyarme durante mi tiempo aquí, y hacer mi experiencia tan especial. ¡Les deseo lo mejor! Me encantaría tener la oportunidad de decir adiós a todos y cada uno de ustedes así que por favor haga tiempo esta semana para decir adiós.
Corrección de la carta de la semana pasada: El primer día del ciclo escolar 2016-17 es el 22 de agosto no el 23 agosto. El calendario tentativo (todavía puede cambiar un poco) de SEP para el próximo año se adjunta a este correo electrónico!
Taller de mentalidad esta semana! Ms. Gina, nuestra maestra de ESL y Secundaria le gustaría invitar a los padres interesados n un taller el jueves 30 de junio a la 1:30 pm. Este taller será sobre una nueva y muy importante tendencia llamada Mindset. Mindset es una idea simple descubierto por la mundialmente famosa psicóloga de la Universidad de Stanford, Carol Dweck en décadas de investigación sobre el logro y el éxito. Esta tendencia se ha comprobado que puede hacer una gran diferencia en la forma en que los estudiantes piensan acerca de su inteligencia y la forma en que perciben el trabajo duro. Las últimas conferencias de padres/maestros se llevarán a cabo el 7 y 8 de julio. Este será un buen momento para reunirse con los maestros y obtener una actualización final sobre el crecimiento de su hijo este ciclo. Pronto podrá anotarse en un horario para la conferencia. Por favor, recuerde que estos días salen temprano los estudiantes –a las 12 pm ambos días. NOTA: No habrá Guarderia estos días.
Dos puestos abiertas de para el próximo ciclo- actualmente estamos buscando candidatos calificados para ser maestros de Inglés como segunda idioma y español como segunda idioma. Los solicitantes deben tener un mínimo de dos años de experiencia como maestro, experiencia de trabajo con estudiantes de 6-14 años de edad, ser bilingüe (o conversacional bi-linugal), y tener excelentes referencias. Recordatorio: Nuestro último día oficial de clases será el 13 de julio. Este día vamos a celebrar graduaciones para los estudiantes de Kínder 3, 6º, y 3º de secundaria - honraremos que pasan de una parte de su vida a otra: los estudiantes de Kínder pasan a primaria, estudiantes de primaria pasan a Secundaria, y nuestros estudiantes de 3º de secundaria comienzan una nueva aventura como estudiantes de Prepa. La ceremonia de graduación y asamblea de clausura comenzará a las 9 am y los estudiantes van a salir después (probablemente alrededor de las 10:30).
CVIS tiene 2 posiciones abiertas para la mesa directiva. Los requisitos son los siguientes;
* Asistir a las 6 reuniones durante todo el ciclo escolar 2016-17. (Septiembre, noviembre, enero, marzo, mayo, junio).
* Participar en al menos uno de los eventos para recaudar fondos
* comprometerse a estar en un comité
* Comprender y apoyar a la escuela y el personal de CVIS
* Estar un período de 2 ciclos escolares

La mesa directiva dará a conocer los nuevos miembros después de la reunión en septiembre de 2016.
El nuevo director Chris Sullivan tendrá su primer día en CVIS el lunes 4 de julio. La mesa directiva le gustaría invitarle a una reunión y gran bienvenida a Chris a la escuela el 6 de julio a las 2:30. Nos gustaría que en este evento consideren traer un platillo para compartir. Esperamos que usted tenga el tiempo para darle la bienvenida a Chris!
