A huge thank you to all of you who attended our wonderful Family day last week! It was great to celebrate all the amazing families that are a part of this school. Special thanks to APO members who helped to organize the event, you did an incredible job! And, a special thanks to all the teachers who supported their students in putting together a great show!
OPEN BOARD MEETING: As a reminder you are all invited and encouraged to attend the open board meeting this Wednesday, June 8 at 1:30pm in the Technology room. The board will be updating the community on some key topics and this will be a great opportunity to ask questions and share ideas. We hope you can make it.
In case you haven’t heard, the Love Cats, a band formed by 3 CVIS Secundaria students, will be playing at Trapiche tomorrow night. Not only can you come hear some great music, but you’ll also be supporting a great cause—helping to provide water filters to people who live in areas where they don’t have access to clean drinking water (including victims of natural disasters)—this is a project that Grade 7 has been working on this year. All proceeds from the event will go to the purchasing and installation of these water filters. Come on out at 7pm to enjoy the show and help to support a great cause! Trapiche is located behind the baseball field, next to Junto del Rio on Avenida del Palmar #10. Please come support the event!
As we are now in June and headed into the last part of the year, we are also thinking about next year. I know some of you are very curious to know about staffing for next year so I wanted to give you an update. Several months ago we met with all of our teachers to discuss their plans and intentions for next year, and this week we will meet with all of the teachers to sign letters of intention. These letters will formalize the commitment between the teachers and the school for next year. These letters include teaching assignment and salary (which the board has found a way to raise for teaching staff!). Once we have met with all the teachers we can announce staffing assignments for next year, which we will do next week.
Many of you have inquired about my scheduled departure date and I wanted to let you know that the board and I have recently agreed to a July 1 finish for me. There is an overlap of my current contract here at CVIS and the contract that I am under for my new position (starts July 1). The new district is allowing me a short window of transition time but I need to report to work by July 11. I will leave Sayulita on July 2 and arrive in my new town by July 7, giving me a few days to settle in before I begin work. Jessica will take over my responsibilities for the last two weeks of school and I am more than confident that things will run smoothly with her in charge. I will stay connected with Jessica and Chris, the new director, during these last two weeks (and beyond!) to support them in any way they may need. We are expecting Chris to arrive July 4, which will give him a wonderful opportunity to get to know the staff, students, and families prior to the start of next year. I have been in close communications with Chris over the last few weeks and we are well on our way to making sure the handover in July is a smooth one. Chris is being briefed on the work that we have been doing over the last few years and where we see the school headed in the coming years. I have been able to share important information about curriculum, the staff, the community, and so much more; we are seizing this great opportunity to be in good communication leading up to his arrival.

JUNTA ABIERTA: Como recordatorio todos ustedes están invitados a asistir a la reunión de la mesa directiva este miércoles, 8 de junio a la 1:30 en la sala de tecnología. La mesa directiva estará actualizando la comunidad sobre algunos temas claves y esto será una gran oportunidad de hacer preguntas y compartir ideas. Esperamos que puedan asistir.
En caso de que no haya oído, The Love Cats, una banda formada por 3 estudiantes de secundaria en CVIS estarán tocando en Trapiche mañana por la noche. No sólo puede llegar y escuchar buena música, sino que también puede apoyar una gran causa - ayudando a proporcionar filtros de agua a las personas que viven en zonas en las que no tienen acceso a agua potable (incluidas las víctimas de desastres naturales). Este es un proyecto que 1º de secundaria ha estado trabajando este ciclo. Todas las ganancias del evento se destinarán a la compra e instalación de estos filtros de agua. Acompáñenos a las 7 pm para disfrutar del espectáculo y ayudar a apoyar una gran causa! Trapiche está detrás del campo de béisbol, al lado del Río Junto en la Avenida del Palmar # 10. Como ahora estamos en junio y nos dirigimos hacia la última parte del ciclo escolar, también estamos pensando en el próximo año. Sé que algunos de ustedes están muy curiosos por saber sobre el personal para el próximo ciclo, así que quería darle una actualización. Hace varios meses hablamos con todos nuestros maestros para discutir sus planes e intenciones para el próximo ciclo, y esta semana nos vamos a juntar con todos los maestros para firmar cartas de intención. Estas cartas van a formalizar el compromiso entre los maestros y la escuela para el próximo ciclo. Estas cartas incluyen asignación de grado y el salario (que la mesa directiva ha encontrado una manera de aumentar para los maestros!). Una vez que nos hemos reunido con todos los maestros podemos anunciar las asignaciones del personal para el próximo ciclo, lo que vamos a hacer la próxima semana.
Muchos de ustedes han preguntado acerca de mi fecha de salida y quería hacerle saber que acorde con la mesa directiva una fecha de salida de 1 de Julio. Existe un traslape de mi contrato actual en CVIS y el contrato que para mí nueva posición (comienza el 1 de julio). El nuevo distrito me esta permitiendo una breve ventana de tiempo de transición, pero tengo que presentarme a trabajar el 11 de julio. Dejaré Sayulita el 2 de julio, llegaré a mi nueva ciudad el 7 de julio, lo que me da un par de días para acomodarme antes de comenzar a trabajar. Jessica se hará cargo de mis responsabilidades durante las dos últimas semanas de la escuela y estoy seguro que todo irá bien. Voy a mantenerme conectado con Jessica y Chris, el nuevo director, durante estas dos últimas semanas (y más adelante!) Para apoyarlos en todo lo que puedan necesitar. Esperamos que Chris llegue el 4 de julio que le dará una excelente oportunidad para conocer a los empleados, estudiantes, y las familias antes del inicio del próximo ciclo. He estado en comunicación con Chris durante las últimas semanas y nos estamos asegurando que el cambio de director en julio sea fácil. Chris se informó sobre el trabajo que hemos estado haciendo en los últimos años y a donde queremos dirigir a la escuela en los próximos años. He podido compartir información importante sobre el currículo, el personal, la comunidad, y mucho más; estamos aprovechando esta gran oportunidad de tener buena comunicación previa a su llegada.
