6th grade went to Altavista, accompanied by master Huichol artist and guide Cilau Veledez. Cilau - who has given TED talks on the subject (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_2vtLp_oqs) - led the class to this sacred and beautiful spot, sharing his knowledge of the history, symbology, and spirituality of this place. The kids cleaned up garbage, left hand made offerings, went swimming in the refreshing waters, and even did a long solo meditation. Emily from Phytostone (http://phytostone.com/) came by last Wednesday and installed our beautiful new grow boxes out front of the school, filled with greens and herbs and flowers. Check them out, they are super cool. K3 sure thought so. 4th grade walked over to El Centro Creativo Sayulita, where they met some 6th graders from San Igancio who led a workshop teaching how to make trash/recycling bins out of old 600ml plastic bottles. The kids loved it and worked super hard, but they ran out of time and didn't finish making the trash bins, so they're going back this week to do more. 7th and 9th grades both took trips up the road to El Club where they took salsa classes as part of their studies of world cultures. Let me know if you want to see some videos! On Friday 3d graders got their first chance to work at the Mercado del Pueblo. They loved it and did a great job. We're kinda raking in the dough over there for scholarship funds, it's great! We always need parent volunteers there as well, so please let me know if you can help. (Awesome photos this week courtesy of parent volunteer Deddeda White!)
