7th graders went around town doing a mapping activity, practicing orienting themselves and following a map, learning how to read and interpret many iffernt types of maps, and making their own maps and map keys. They did a great job and I feel confident sayng they can now be trusted with co-piloting duties riding shot-gun on road trips. / Los alumnos de 7º grado recorrieron la ciudad realizando una actividad de mapeo, practicando la orientación y siguiendo un mapa, aprendiendo a leer e interpretar muchos tipos de mapas, y creando sus propios mapas y claves de mapas. More classes have begun their bi-weekly visits for nature journaling to the Secret Graden at Villa Sayulita. 2nd, 4th, and 6th grades all went for the first time last week. This week 1st grade will take their second trip there, and 3d and 5th grades will make their first visits. Huge thanks again to Villa Sayulita for iopeing up their space for us. Thursday, 4th grade had a great visit to El Centro Creativo. After our first round of classes there, the Centro team and I had a little debrief and re-strategy session, and are making things even more dynamic, action packed and fun for the kids. 4th grade went rhythm wild with primal screams, raps, a giant tanaka bass drum, paint-buckets, coconuts, wind-bottle chimes and more, and somehow distilled it all into an original composition about "peace and love." 3d grade will visit El Centro this week. Thank you El Centro! / Jueves, 4to grado tuvo una gran visita a El Centro Creativo. Después de nuestra primera ronda de clases allí, el equipo del Centro y yo tuvimos una breve sesión de preguntas y estrategias, y estamos haciendo las cosas aún más dinámicas, llenas de acción y divertidas para los niños. On Friday, 9th graders went to beautiful, historic, and sacred Alta Vista. There, in between the hot and sweaty hikes to the cars and back, they learned some history (ask them how Nayarit got its name!), observed, drew, and speculated about the meanings and origins of the petroglyphs, had some time for quiet meditative reflection, cleaned up a few garbage bags worth of trash, and of course went for a swim. Not a bad Friday. Big thanks to the parents who drove. / El viernes, los alumnos de 9° grado fueron a la bella, histórica y sagrada Alta Vista. Allí, entre las caminatas calientes y sudorosas hacia los autos y la parte de atrás, aprendieron algo de historia (¡pregúntales cómo Nayarit obtuvo su nombre!), Observaron, dibujaron y especularon sobre los significados y orígenes de los petroglifos, tuvieron tiempo para la tranquilidad reflexión meditativa, limpió algunas bolsas de basura por valor de basura, y por supuesto se fue a nadar.
