We are very excited to introduce you to artist Noemi Manero, a California based Spanish artist. She came to Sayulita and fell in love with it, like so many of us. She has generously offered 50% of sales of her Sayulita inspired work to be donated to the Colegio Costa Verde Scholarship program. Dear CVIS families,
We hope this email finds you well. We appreciate your patience in these uncertain times regarding the plans for this school year that is about to begin.
The school year will start on August 24th, 2020 for all students. The CVIS staff and administration are prepared to offer our students a school year in which they can face the challenges of the new “normal”.
We have redesigned our programs to guarantee the educational quality that CVIS has always distinguished, focusing on:
Experiential learning.
Offer a wide variety of academic resources.
Implementation of academic strategies.
Teaching support.
Reduce the intervention of parents.
Adapt our class schedules.
We will work on an experiential learning model where students will have a variety of resources available in our context so they can create knowledge through their experiences. With the accompaniment and guidance of our Director of Field Studies, students will be able to recognize the wealth that their environment brings to their education.
Our plans include:
Increased off-campus activities
Smaller group learning opportunities in open areas
Structured distance learning schedules
One to one or small group tutoring
For our middle school students, we will incorporate the Knotion https:// www.knotion.com/ program for academic enrichment as well as the provision of iPads to the students. We will have a presentation about this program for parents soon.
All of our students will receive a schedule that includes:
Distance learning time led by teachers.
Independent work time with materials that teachers will provide every 15 days and parents must pick up at school.
Extra-curricular activities either online or with reduced groups.
Outdoors activities.

Seguramente durante estos meses sus hijos han extrañado la comida de la escuela, bueno le tenemos buenas noticias porque estaremos ofreciendo nuestros desayunos escolares, los martes y viernes bajo pedido, únicamente para llevar. Le informaremos de mayor detalle y logística en algunas semanas más.

Familias de CVIS,
Hemos llegado al final del ciclo escolar 2019-2020. Un año que ha sido de enormes retos para todos nosotros. Muchísimas felicidades a todos nuestros graduados. Un especial reconocimiento para nuestros alumnos de 9no grado que comienzan un nuevo camino fuera de Costa Verde. Les deseamos que cada uno de sus sueños se cumplan y que este camino que comienzan traiga consigo mucho aprendizaje y nuevas experiencias. Gracias a sus familias por haber formado parte de nuestra comunidad.
El día lunes recibirá las boletas y/o certificados ya que aún no están emitidas por la Secretaría de Educación. En caso de presentar algún adeudo favor de contactar a Dana Corona para que le puedan ser entregados los documentos.
Esperamos que la situación actual nos permita regresar de nuevo a clases el 10 de agosto para curso remedial y el 31 de agosto para comenzar el ciclo escolar 2020-2021. Le mantendremos informado de cualquier cambio.

We have reached the end of the 2019-2020 school year. A year that has been one of the enormous challenges for all of us. Congratulations to all of our graduates. Special recognition for our 9th-grade students starting a new path outside of Costa Verde. We wish you that each of your dreams is fulfilled and that this path that you start brings with a lot of learning and new experiences. Thank you to your families for being part of our community.
On Monday you will receive the report cards and/or certificates since they are not yet issued by the Ministry of Education. In case you have an outstanding balance, please contact Dana Corona so that the documents can be delivered to you.
We hope that the current situation will allow us to return to school on August 10 for a remedial course and on August 31 to start the 2020-2021 school year. We will keep you informed of any changes.

Esta semana será muy corta, recuerde que el viernes no tendremos clases por nuestro Consejo Técnico Escolar.
Los alumnos de 6to y 9no realizarán mañana un viaje al centro arqueológico los Toriles y a la Feria Internacional del Libro en Guadalajara. ¡Les deseamos que tengan un muy buen viaje!
Estamos en semana de conferencias, recuerde que para los alumnos de preescolar y primaria éste miércoles 28 y jueves 29 la salida será a las 12:00 hrs. Favor de recogerlos puntualmente.
Recuerde que los maestros han estado preparándose para las conferencias, su participación y asistencia son clave para lograr un ciclo escolar exitoso. Esperamos poder unir esfuerzos con ustedes. Si aún no se ha registrado para una reunión, pongas en contacto con el maestro de grupo o bien pase directamente al salón donde tienen publicados los horarios disponibles.
Debido a las conferencias, no tendremos clubes los días miércoles y jueves de esta semana.
Secundaria.
Felicitaciones y gracias al club de poesía de 9º grado que ayudó en la recaudación de fondos de Food For Good. Crearon poemas personalizados para invitados. (Ver fotos adjuntas). Fue un gran evento para ayudar a financiar programas de arte y teatro en crecimiento.
El noveno grado viajará al sitio arqueológico de Las Toriles y a Guadalajara para visitar la Feria del Libro mañana 27 de noviembre. Están autorizados para llegar a clase a las 10 am del miércoles 28 de noviembre.
El primer trimestre termina esta semana. Los proyectos finales y los exámenes son esta semana. Las calificaciones finales se presentarán el lunes 3 de diciembre.
Las conferencias de padres y maestros serán programadas para el viernes 7 de diciembre de 12pm-3pm en el aula de matemáticas. This will be a short week, remember that on Friday we will not have school because of the monthly CTE.
The 6th and 9th graders will make a trip tomorrow to the Los Toriles archaeological center and to the International Book Fair in Guadalajara. We wish them a very good trip!
We are in the week of conferences, remember that for preschool and elementary students this Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 students will be released at 12:00 hrs. Please pick them up on time.
Remember that teachers have been preparing for conferences, your participation and assistance are key to achieving a successful school year. We hope to join efforts with you. Secondary
Congratulations and thanks to the 9th-grade poetry club that help out at the Annual Food For Good fundraiser. They created custom poems for guests. (See photos attached). It was a great event to help fund outgrowing arts and theatre programs
-9th grade will be traveling Las Toriles archaeological site and to Guadalajara to visit the Book Fair tomorrow November 27th. they are approved to arrive to class at 10 am on Wednesday, Nov 28.
-The first trimester ends this week. Final projects and exams are this week. Final grades will be submitted on Monday, Dec. 3
-Parent/Teacher conferences will be scheduled for Friday, Dec. 7th from 12pm-3pm in the math classroom. Familias de Costa Verde,
Si está recibiendo este correo electrónico significa que su hijo/a está inscrito para comenzar la escuela a las 8 de la mañana del 20 de agosto. ¡Felicidades! Mientras tanto, ¿tiene preguntas? Durante la primera semana nuestro horario de salida será a las 12:00 hrs para los niveles de preescolar y primaria. Para los alumnos de secundaria se ha enviado ya un correo con información detallada al respecto.
- Para preescolar, es necesario agendar una reunión breve con las maestras cualquier día de miércoles a viernes después de las 12:30 hrs para realizar una entrevista inicial de diagnóstico y pueda conocerlas mejor y conocer su forma de trabajo.
- Para primaria, puede pasar con sus maestros de jueves a viernes de 12:30 a 3 pm para nuestro Open House. Esta es una gran oportunidad para platicar con los maestros de manera informal y conocer cuales son las expectativas para este ciclo escolar.
¿Necesitas uniformes o tickets de lunch? Nuestra oficina estará disponible desde mañana martes 14 de agosto en delante con horario de 9 am a 2 pm y desde el 20 de agosto con horario de 8 am a 3 pm. Dana con gusto le apoyará.

Nuestro horario escolar continua de igual forma que el ciclo pasado. La hora de entrada es aún flexible con oportunidad de llegar desde las 8:00am a 9:00am. El horario de salida es a las 3:00pm.
A diferencia de el ciclo anterior, en primaria contaremos con un maestro de español titular por cada grado escolar y contará de igual forma con un profesor acompañante en el área de inglés. También en este ciclo los alumnos tendrán la oportunidad de escoger de hasta 2 clubes escolares por las mañanas (de 8 am a 9 am), los cuales se impartirán una vez por semana. No tendrá ningún costo adicional y apoyará a la formación académica, social y de impacto ecológico en nuestra comunidad. Alguna de las opciones disponibles serán basketball, club de conversación en español, club de conversación en inglés, entre otros. Se les proporcionará mayor información más delante.

During the first week, our schedule releases students at 12:00 hrs for kindergarten and elementary school. For secundaria school students, an email with detailed information has already been sent.

Our school schedule continues in the same way as last year. Our entry schedule is still flexible with an opportunity to arrive from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and the students are released at 3:00 p.m.
Unlike the previous school year, in elementary school we will have a Spanish teacher by grade level and will also have an accompanying teacher for English. Also, this year students will have the opportunity to choose up to 2 school clubs in the mornings (from 8 am to 9 am), which will be taught once a week. It will not have any additional cost and will support the academic, social and ecological impact formation in our community. Some of the available options will be basketball, conversation club in Spanish, conversation club in English, among others. More information will be provided later.

World Oceans Day/River Clean-up this Tueday! ¡Día Mundial de los Océanos / Limpieza de los ríos este martes!
On Monday many CVIS students, teachers, and families participated in a community river clean-up. As the rainy season starts it is super important to clean up the arroyos, because otherwise all that trash will wash out to sea. The river bed behind school and the bus-stop contained an overwhwlming amount of trash. We made a lot of progress with the first river cleaning but there is still a long way to go. Please join the next cleaning this Tuesday, June 12. See you at the bus station at 6:30 p.m. Gloves and bags will be provided. Thank you! / El lunes, muchos estudiantes, maestros y familias de CVIS participaron en una limpieza comunitaria de ríos. Cuando comienza la lluvia, es muy importante limpiar los arroyos, porque de lo contrario toda esa basura se lavará al mar. 6th grade went to Altavista, accompanied by master Huichol artist and guide Cilau Veledez. Cilau - who has given TED talks on the subject (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_2vtLp_oqs) - led the class to this sacred and beautiful spot, sharing his knowledge of the history, symbology, and spirituality of this place. The kids cleaned up garbage, left hand made offerings, went swimming in the refreshing waters, and even did a long solo meditation. Huge thanks to the parents who drove and to Cilau and Galeria Tanana! El 6 ° grado fue a Altavista, acompañado por el maestro artista y guía huichol Cilau Veledez. 4th grade walked over to El Centro Creativo Sayulita, where they met some 6th graders from San Igancio who led a workshop teaching how to make trash/recycling bins out of old 600ml plastic bottles. The kids loved it and worked super hard, but they ran out of time and didn't finish making the trash bins, so they're going back this week to do more. On Friday 3d graders got their first chance to work at the Mercado del Pueblo. They loved it and did a great job. We're kinda raking in the dough over there for scholarship funds, it's great! Beach Clean Up, Bamboo Workshop, Research Trip and More!
We will be doing a beach clean-up this Sunday, November 26. This clean-up will be sponsored by Ms. Melissa's K2 class, who are studying the ocean and ocean life and want to do their part to help. Please come out to support these kids and keep our beaches clean! We will meet at 9am in front of El Break cafe. See you there! Estaremos limpiando la playa este domingo, 26 de noviembre. 9th grader Sara Moore and I were lucky to spend Thursday through Sunday November 9th - 12th at the Bamboo Architecture Workshop put on by Festival Sayulita and El Centro. Sara applied for and won a full scholarship to the workshop, and was a superstar the whole time! She has a bright future in achitecture or engineering if she wants. Other secundaria students Elliott Whitten, Dylan Thompson, and David Marron submitted a video about their work as Eco Stewards and were invited to participate in the workshop all day Saturday. We learned all about bamboo as a sustainable resource, and bamboo building techniques. Ask the kids about the different types of connections used and why, they're experts now. We also built three bamboo geodesic domes that will be used as reading and play centers in the new El Centro community center. La estudiante de 9no grado Sara Moore y yo tuvimos la suerte de pasar del jueves 9 al 12 de noviembre en el Taller de Arquitectura de Bambú organizado por Festival Sayulita y El Centro. ¡Sara solicitó y ganó una beca completa para el taller, y fue una superestrella todo el tiempo! Then last Wednesday 3d, 4th, and 6th grades all went out to the El Centro site and got their own mini workshops, learning about and practicing baharenque wall building technigues for the domes.They worked hard int he hot sun, and keep asking when they get to go back! Thanks so much to th architects from OJTAT(http://www.ojtat.org/), the people from Festival Sayulita and El Centro, and Manuel Trujillo and his family for creating such a wonderful resource for the youth of Sayulita, inviting us out there, and letting us participate in the construction. Also on Wednesday the 5th grade went to EntreAmigos in San Pancho to find Spanish language resources for their research projects on subjects ranging from the Amazon, to black holes, to polar bears. Big thanks to to the staff of EntreAmigos and our own libriarian Daniela McEntyre for guiding and facilitating the research process. And thanks to all the parent drivers and chaperones: Jenni Morelos, Erick Sanchez, Jordi Ferrer, Zaida Lugo, Renessa Melang, and Morgan Sierra. Tuesday the 7th grade drove to El Molcajete, an dormant volcano outside of Mascota. They hiked up the cone, ran down into the crater, and made lots of observations and inferences and found evidence about the type of volcano it is (a cinder cone). They also took advantage of the change in altitude and increased distance from the coast to do some review for their previous unit on climate and eco-systems. Thanks to Ms. Taheri and all the parent drivers/car lenders (Zack Melang, Chris Ostrowski, Nick Challed, and Soi Mora who lent us her car, Anne Menke who lent us her truck. Friday Secundaria Director John Whitten and I accompanied the 9th graders to Nayarit State Science Fair at the Palacio Gobierno in Tepic. Thanks again to Jordi Ferrer for lending his truck. The theme of the event was sustainable energy, and there were some truly amazing projects from around the state, including bio-diesel engines, a cardboard bicycle, and our own electric stove, powered by a car battery and a washing machine motor. The battery powers the stove, the motor charges the battery, and it can run virtually forever with only the pull of a cord to start the motor. The project was really cool, and the students were so adept and articulate in explaining it and answering questions. We won 4th place in the state! Congratulations to the students and Professor Juan Pablo for their amazing work! El Director de la Secundaria del Viernes John Whitten y yo acompañamos a los estudiantes de 9no grado a la Feria de Ciencias del Estado de Nayarit en el Palacio de Gobierno en Tepic. Field Studies Adventures
Hola a todos,
We had a short but eventful week last week, with all kinds of Halloween and Dia de los Muertos fun. Thanks to the APO, the secundaria students, and everyone who helped out for a great Halloween party Tuesday night. Tuvimos una semana breve pero llena de acontecimientos la semana pasada, con todo tipo de diversión de Halloween y Dia de los Muertos. K1 and K2 made their own watering cans out of old plastic water bottles and had a great time watering around campus now that the dry season is upon us. 6th grade got out the hand saws and the drill and started making braces for their re-purposed fruit-crate seats.
4th grade finished their surf classes. What a great 5 weeks it was! 22 of 24 students participated, and everyone that went caught tons of waves, even a few kids that had never beenin the ocean before! Secundaria Eco-stewards finished their table, and wrote letters and made a video about everything they've been doing in order to try to win scholarships to Festival Sayulita's intensive four-day Bamboo Architecture workshop. Wish them luck! In the meantime they're putting the finishing touches on the outdoor class area for our ESL students. 2nd, 3d, 4th, and 5th graders started making turtle related art (from re-purposed egg-crates and coffee lids) with Ms. Dahlia. They wil be selling the art to raise money to sponsor class turtle nests. Look out for that, and buy some art for a great cause. Surf Class, Movie Making, Science Experiments and More!
Dear families/Queridas familias,
All kinds of fun stuff happened last week, and we've got even more coming up. Todos los tipos de cosas divertidas ocurrieron la semana pasada, y tenemos más cosas por venir.
This week, we will have a visit from Jon Rose from Waves For Water, the 7th grade will go to Altavista, we will have a visit from a representative of the San Pancho Bird Observatory, 5th grade will put on a puppet show, this Sunday will be the International Coastal Cleanup, and more. Esta semana, vamos a tener una visita de Jon Rose de Waves For Water, el séptimo grado irá a Altavista, tendremos una visita de un representante del Observatorio de Aves de San Pancho, 5to grado pondrá un espectáculo de marionetas, este domingo será la Limpieza Costera Internacional, y más.
Last week K1 and K2 started gardening, planting flowers, and decorating the upcycled tin cans they used for pots. La semana pasada K1 y K2 comenzaron a cultivar el huerto, plantar flores y decorar las latas de lata upcycled que usaron para las ollas.
K2 also recently had a special music lesson from new music teacher Anne Sanchez (who started with everyone last week) all about high/low, loud/soft and the other aspects of sound they are learning as part of their study of the senses. 4th grade started surf classes with the fine people over at Surf & Roll. Wednesday was perfect for beginners, everybody got in the water and lots of kids caught and stood up on their first waves ever. 6th grade started a project to using vegetable scraps to grow vegetables and will be creating root-vegetable "aquariums." 7th grade did a series of four different science activities related to weather.
